What have I got blooming?

My husband picked an orange off the tree for me yesterday, and I thought what a nice thing to talk about for Blooms day.orange tree

Too bad he picked it in Los Angeles instead of our own New York back yard.  He was there on business and brought it home for me as a treat.  If I can’t have sunshine I could at least taste a bit of it, he joked.  Anyway, that said, back to reality.

 I instead, have snow. web-shoes-0581

 And plenty of it.

Although, a few days ago, before it snowed, I was  delighted to find one brave soul hiding in the mulch that probably wishes for spring even more than I do.

Maybe spring would arrive early after all.~  Hey a girl can dream can’t she?

How I long for those crocuses and snowdrops to pop out of the snow and declare that our wait is close to over.  But that is not to be today.   So in order to show a bloom or two I had to head indoors and to my surprise, there they were, just as I had hoped (except for the- outside on a spring like day- part) My forced Crocuses starting to sprout! web-new-242

There was also a Christmas Cactus just beginning to bud. web-new-257

So there are signs of life here at my house.  Signs of life that are definite and predictable, even if they are mostly inside.

Also there are flowers with gorgeous colors to brighten up any dull winter day sitting right on my table and my windowsill.  They are my Valentines Day presents.  web-new-236

So I will stop whining and embrace the beauty that sits right in front of me and share it with all of you.

 And keep hoping for spring.

Happy bloom day Teresa! Here in CA, spring is obvious but it’s still mostly cold and damp. Then I remind myself that the days are getting longer, so spring must be on its way!

Nice photos! I love the trees in the snow… with the promise just underneath.

Congratulations on the new sprout on your family tree. That’s definitely the very best kind of sprout.

As for all that snow, hold on – spring IS coming! I promise.

My heart always breaks a little when I see the shoots come up so early only to be covered in snow within a few days.

  • 12 Kelly@LifeOutOfDoors:

I like your style Theresa! I love the attitude of seeing the beauty in it all, even if it is just one shoot of a daffodil. My snowy garden looks much like yours! I was so thrilled to see an unexpected ultrasound picture tucked in with the other budding lives – I’m still crying just a bit. Thanks for visiting my site. And congrats on that new baby!

  • 13 Lynn:

You had me going for a while there. I was thinking: Oranges and New York, what is wrong with this picture. Thanks for sharing your bits of Spring with us. I’ve seen the little buds of Daffodils popping up. The promise of Spring is there if we look closely.

How exciting, Teresa…it is indeed a valentine’s gift to have a grandchild sprouting! Your snow looks, well, snowy and white! But I’m glad you were able to find some sprouts outside in the midst of it. No sprouts here in VA. If there are, I haven’t yet seen them under these several feet of white stuff! Spring cannot come soon enough!

  • 19 Ann Creek:

Your blog is just lovely. The fresh orange, wouldn’t it be fantastic to pick it off your own tree, but alas we don’t live in such climates. We’ve had a record breaking snowfall this winter, but you know I really like it.
Grandchildren are the VERY best thing ever. We have four.
