This English Setter decanter we found in an antique store while on vacation, several years ago.  I was thrilled to find it.

This first embroidered scene I found on Ebay. 

This embroidered pointers  scene has been in my cedar chest for as long as I can remember.  I finally framed it a couple of years ago.  My mother embroidered it when she was very young.  So not only is it a great vintage piece of artwork that I love, it was also made by my mom. 

I wonder if she knew back then, that her daughter and her husband would one day have hunting dogs. 

 Besides Thunder, we also had his mother~ Scooter, another English Setter, and before her, we had a German Shorthair, Spot.   They were all great hunters in their day as well as great dogs.

 I sanded off the old finish, cleaned up the pulls and lock covers, then refinished the whole thing. 

 I contact papered the drawers, and voila!

We delivered it to my son and his wife who were just thrilled. 

My husband and son carried it straight up to her room. 

  Not bad for a $30 find.

What else could you ask for?  

Two weeks ago I showed some metal chairs on VTT that we had found on the curb.  Three at one place, three at another.  The metal chair jackpot you could say. 

It looks like four of them are salvagable. The other two may be safety hazzards so we will have to see if they are worth the work or not. 

 My husband finally had some time to sand two of them for me, He also secured the bolts on the sides that keep them together. 

 Although we thought they looked kind of cool after being sanded, we went ahead and painted …… 

and Voila… here they are red and shiny just like new, ~no better than new! 

I will add them to my collection.

There are no breaks in the outside and it is lined with RED(my fave) and has service for 6 of plates, cups and silverware.  I am not fond of the tableware but the basket is awesome.  I will use it for plants in the summer, and for pointsettias at Christmas time. 

Maybe I will even take it on a picnic one day,  you never know.   For $8 I’d say it was a great find.  You can’t even by a new basket for that much anymore. 

 The dresser behind it is my next project.  I will save that for another VTT.

Vintage Thingie Thursday is here again and so are my fun collection of ceramic animals. I didn’t realize until  tonight that I have more pigs than anything else. 

I am not a pig collector by any means.  

Maybe they just liked to paint pigs back when these were made so there are more of them to choose from. 

 Or more logically, it’s because a couple of them are piggy banks. 

  They may also remind me of the grandog, Fred.

 I don’t care, they are as fun as ever and they do torment my sons. 

 What’s wrong with liking pigs anyway?

 So here is a vintage aqua canning jar filled with marbles. Some are really old, others belonged to my boys growing up, In any case, they are colorful in the light.  The other is a  ceramic dog I found on ebay a few years ago.  He makes me laugh.  Now there’s a face!  Both of these are on my desk and give me somthing to gaze at when I am lost for words.

Found this guy at the Madison Bouckville Antique show last summer.  It is an old soup terrine.  It says Italy on the bottom. It appears pretty old, but even if it isn’t, as soon as I saw that face I knew I had to get it.  That and the aqua color on the bottom made it irresistible to me.  So I took him home and he sits on my stepback cupboard in the kitchen watching the goings on at our house looking a bit worried.

Maybe he thinks we will be making rabbit soup.

While searching to find the right thing for VTT, my Amaryllis caught my eye.  The pot that it is in is very old.  My mother in law gave it to me at least 25 years ago and it was vintage then.  She called it a bean pot, I think I would call it a crock.  It has withstood the test of time.  I used to have two of them but somewhere along the line one of them disappeared.  (Be sure you don’t miss out on the beauty of that Amaryllis while looking at the pot.)

This aqua bowl was also my mother in law’s.  I just love it.  She had it in a garage sale until I swooped in and snatched it.   I couldn’t believe she was selling it. She was surprised I wanted it. 

She also had this square pottery bowl or tray. 

 Again I had to take that off her hands.  Now I am always on the look out for aqua colored pottery and bowls.  Actually, I like all colors but aqua is my favorite.

I found this santa at a garage sale several years ago.  It stands about 4 feet tall and is made out of wood. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw it.   And it was only 4 dollars.  What a buy!  It always feels like Christmas when we bring Santa out.  I just love him.   

   This wreath is made with vintage ornaments that I have collected over the years.  It’s a miracle I haven’t broken it yet and it even survived moving to our new house…I probably just jinxed myself.

 Her husband was into gardening.  He had a greenhouse and many plants.  After he died, she weeded through alot of his gardening things. 

Lucky for me, this was one of his flower pots she didn’t want.  I always enjoyed visiting him.  He was very proud of his plants~he would call me over to see a new blooming orchid or bulb that had emerged in his green house. I would usually end up going home with a cutting or plant that he wanted to share.  I miss him and his passion for gardening. He was a good man.
