I bought this Santa sign at a garage sale for $4.  I couldn’t believe my luck, that I had found it.  It stands about 4 ft tall and is made out of wood.   I think it may have been an advertisement of some sort long ago.  Whatever it was, it has new life now bringing Christmas spirit into our home year after year.

This is the chair I got at the Madison Bouckville Antique show back in August.   I had never seen one like it and when my husband and I laid eyes on it, we both sort of looked at each other and we knew right then what the other was thinking.

The price was only $50 and we ended up paying $40.  Not a bad deal for a vintage piece that matches my metal garden chairs so well, especially since I have been searching for the chaise lounge of my dreams forEVER.

I painted the worn handles, touched up the wheel paint and spray painted the rest a fresh coat of white to protect it from the weather.

It took  me until now to finally get around to making the cushion.  That was the expensive part of the whole thing. Foam is not cheap and good outdoor fabric either, but now that it’s finished I couldn’t be happier.

I think my dog thinks it’s a new bed for him….

My husband brought me home a surprise a couple of weeks ago.

He found this wonderful cupboard on the curb.  Someone had thrown it away.  In better shape than these pictures show in the before pics.

The paint was still in tact, I scraped it to see the wood.  The glass was unbroken, even the shelf paper was in good condition.

But with a little bit of love, some sanding, painting, a new knob and adding some pulls to the drawer as well as  adding top moulding for some character, new shelf front moulding (to put a facade in front of the curvy shelf I didn’t like)

and it’s a different piece altogether.

I bet if they saw it now they wouldn’t have sent it to the landfill.

Here it is in my kitchen.  Still have to put some stuff in it but that will be no problem.

One can never get enough cupboard space.

One  Wednesday, my friend, Linda and my dog, Thunder  and I went for our usual daily walk.  It is our effort~  so as to be able to eat what we want~ to take a walk every day.    Well, another thing we love about our walks is that on Wednesday evening it is trash night.  You know where I am going with this.

There were so many treasures just waiting to be had by unsuspecting treasure pickers.  That’s us.   First off we saw a mission rocker in need of some love.   rocker before

There was also a cupboard on the same pile.  Very old, in need of some TLC but hey, why not?  Another keeper.web-rock-028

So I called my son who was happy to leave his friends and come to haul these finds back to our house in my jeep.  I mean, we were walking, you couldn’t expect us to carry all that stuff  and what teen ager isn’t thrilled to be seen picking garbage?

So these are the end results.  The rocker is a looker now that I repaired the arm, refinished it and, recovered the springs with new foam and fabric.  Notice I said I.  Although I often need help, this one I could handle. web-oo-002

Same with the cupboard.  I repaired the door and the back wall, painted, distressed and now it’s a beauty. web-o-004

All in all I think it was a very productive walk that day.  Wish we could get that lucky every Wednesday.                    daisy

I bought this chair several years ago at a garage sale.

I refinished it back then and covered the old springs with new foam and fabric.  It has held up very well.

It has been on our front porch during the nicer weather, the past three years, and it was finally showing the wear and tear of the elements.  I took the time to refinish it this summer. The wood was weathered but nothing a little love couldn’t fix.

I made it a bit darker this time to look more arts and crafts era.

I put a faux leather seat on it since it will be outside and a couple of coats of polyurethane and we are back in business.

A welcoming chair to sit and enjoy a warm summer afternoon.
