I bought this Santa sign at a garage sale for $4.  I couldn’t believe my luck, that I had found it.  It stands about 4 ft tall and is made out of wood.   I think it may have been an advertisement of some sort long ago.  Whatever it was, it has new life now bringing Christmas spirit into our home year after year.

I made This Chrismas tree from vintage pins that were given to me. vintage pin tree

Each one of them is so pretty and unique.  They remind me of the person who gave it to me which makes it more special. pin tree

It is about 15 inches square and each one is pinned to the red velvet and then I framed them in a deep frame.web-pin-tree-007

What used to be jewelry is now a cherished Christmas decoration I bring out every year to hang on my wall.    It never fails to add a bit of cheer to the holiday season.

This is an old cupboard someone threw away several months ago.  While out on a walk with my friend, we came across it.

The back was falling apart, the door was off, the finish was horrible and their had been a can of polyurethane that had dumped inside of it.  Quite a mess. It was in pretty sad shape but I took it home anyway.

A little paint, screws, elbow grease and a little vision, not to mention love, and it’s a great antique that hangs in my dining room full of books.

That was one great walk we took that day! I think of it every time I look at my wonderful cupboard.

One  Wednesday, my friend, Linda and my dog, Thunder  and I went for our usual daily walk.  It is our effort~  so as to be able to eat what we want~ to take a walk every day.    Well, another thing we love about our walks is that on Wednesday evening it is trash night.  You know where I am going with this.

There were so many treasures just waiting to be had by unsuspecting treasure pickers.  That’s us.   First off we saw a mission rocker in need of some love.   rocker before

There was also a cupboard on the same pile.  Very old, in need of some TLC but hey, why not?  Another keeper.web-rock-028

So I called my son who was happy to leave his friends and come to haul these finds back to our house in my jeep.  I mean, we were walking, you couldn’t expect us to carry all that stuff  and what teen ager isn’t thrilled to be seen picking garbage?

So these are the end results.  The rocker is a looker now that I repaired the arm, refinished it and, recovered the springs with new foam and fabric.  Notice I said I.  Although I often need help, this one I could handle. web-oo-002

Same with the cupboard.  I repaired the door and the back wall, painted, distressed and now it’s a beauty. web-o-004

All in all I think it was a very productive walk that day.  Wish we could get that lucky every Wednesday.                    daisy
