Trying to keep the delights of summer in my mind while it is blustery and cold outside.  Today I am thinking red…

Winter is the season in which people try to keep the house as warm as it was in the summer, when they complained about the heat.  ~Author Unknown

Since it is another November day that’s cold outside and not fit out there for flowers, to be sure, I needed to break out the pictures.

Thank goodness for photographs and memories, they keep me in flowers until springtime

No, they are not alien fingertips,

they are the Stamen and Pistil of the tropical Hibiscus Flower.

This flower is a beautiful sight, to be sure,

but if you look closely, their intricate design is very interesting as well as useful for reproduction.

The Hibiscus flower is bisexual and contains both the ovary and stamen.  Petals are brightly colored to attract bees, humming birds and other pollinators.
Mother nature is an amazing artist and you need not look any farther than this beautiful flower to see proof of that.

Let us permit Nature to take her own way; she better understands her own affairs than we.  ~Michel de Montaigne

These are a few of the beauties growing in my garden right now. hibiscus

The pink hibiscus has such an interesting center.  The Stamen and Pistil remind me of an alien hand, or maybe something Dr. Seuss would draw.  Very colorful.  It’s too bad each flower only lasts a day.  Luckily there are many more to follow. strawflower

The straw flowers have that dried flower feel to them.  I have always thought they were very interesting.  Gazania

Lastly are the Gazanias.  They are such a bright and colorful flower that close at night.  They are an easy plant to grow.gazania
