Many of the joys of fall are obvious. Apples, pretty leaves, halloween, crisp air, they are endless. Standing in a river on a really cold morning is not my idea of one. To my husband, the greatest joy of the season aside from the colors of nature and the beauty to be enjoyed, is his time spent on the Salmon River.
Of course fishing all year long is what he loves. When there is fly fishing to be done, life is good as far as he is concerned, but catching one of these steelhead trout gives him an annual thrill like no other. Reeling one of these in for a quick photo before being turned back into the river is what he lives for in the Autumn. Now to me, it doesn’t sound like a very productive activity. He fishes for the fun and not for the catch. But to him and his friend Joe, it is their passion.
Hard for me to understand because my attention span for fishing is about ten minutes and then I am wandering with my camera to find flowers or trees or birds, anything that I can photograph. He has really tried to get me to like it, but I say up early, freezing and waiting for a fish doesn’t do it for me. Personally I’ll stick with gardening.
Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after. ~Henry David Thoreau
p.s. I didn’t take the photos, I was home, warm in bed, snoozing!

I enjoy fishing if they bite. I just want to sit on the bank and watch my cork – none of this type fishing. A nice tribute to your husband and his passion.

That is such a familiar story! My husband goes to the Sierras (California) and I stay home! If he wants to leave his fishing pole at home…then I am very interested in tagging along! That appears to be a great fish your husband caught! My husband would be jealous!

I like to eat fish. Actually catching them is not something I normally would do but if necessity dictated, then yes. Isn’t it great that we have such diverse hobbies?

Good looking fish. I am not into fishing or eating it, but most of the men in my family love to fish. I love the last shot!
Thank you for sharing the great catches and proud smiles of your husband and his friend with us!

Fishing is not my thing. My brother is a fanatic. I just look at the nature– or stay home in bed, like you.

As I sit and type this comment, I HEAR my hubby’s truck hitching up to the boat as he heads out on yet another fishing trip. Yes, I’m married to a fisherman too – - – so much of a fisherman that I simply call him Fisherhubby on my blog!
Fun to meet you today.

My father was a fishing fanatic. He was a fishing guide on the Texas Coast, salt water tho, and he fished every day. If he wasn’t fishing for profit, he still went fishing. He couldn’t NOT fish! I would be staying at home too. There are things in that water that I never cared to chance upon…..
