Up Close and Beautiful

Philadelphia Flower Show had so many gorgeous flowers.Â
It was so nice to see them all blooming and fragrant.
This clematis was simple and pretty.
This is what it looks like backed up a bit.
The colors of hydrangeas never fail to please.

Haworthia

This plant has such interesting texture when you get really  close.

It is actually an interesting plant when it is full size too.
It is a Haworthia which is a succulent plant from South Africa.Â

Springtime in my dining room

 Â
These Oriental Irises seemed to open in front of my eyes today.Â
My husband surprised me with them last night and this morning they were still closed tight.
As the day went on they emerged into these glorious flowers.
Â
They are still not completely opened…Â
that will give me something to take pictures of tomorrow.

He loves me,

he loves me not.
Have you ever played this game?Â
It is said to be of French origin and go back to Victorian times.  Women would pick the petals off a daisy to find out if their suitor really cared for them or not.Â
The words said pulling off the last petal were the words to believe.Â
I think it’s accuracy [...]

This is not a sanity test, I promise.

Just play along. What does this look like.  First thing that comes to your mind?

Laying under a group of huge snowy evergreen trees looking up to the sky, is that what you see?  Or is it a peek between a few evergreen branches? Â

Not just another pretty face

When we look at flowers, we see their colors and shape and enjoy their beauty.Â
We are also taken with their fragrance.  They are pretty to look at and nice to have around.  But if we look closer, they are more than just a pretty face.

We would like to think that they are here purely for our enjoyment [...]

Flora, up close and magnified, scenic too! ~ Avatar

My son has seen the movie Avatar five times.Â
I have seen it twice.  Once just to see it, on New Year’s Eve with my husband and then last night my aforementioned son talked me into a late movie.  Since he is 18 and way too busy to hit the movies with his mom on a regular [...]

Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria, also known as the Peruvian Lily, are great cut flowers. They are a florist’s favorite because they often last as long as two weeks in a vase.  They have no fragrance but are brightly colored and tropical looking. They are easy to grow in the garden but until now they were not hardy here.

  I never [...]

Amaryllis up close~ Macro Monday

My amaryllis is getting ready to bloom.Â
I can hardly wait to see it’s beauty.
It shouldn’t be too much longer.

Paper White Blooms

The Paper Whites I forced a few weeks ago have bloomed beautifully! And in time for Christmas.

Surprisingly they stayed tall except for one pot of them that finally bent over.  I just picked them and put them in a vase.Â
The flowers remind me of snow that sparkles in the light.   They sort of shimmer if you [...]
