Bamboo Tomato cages and a quick trellis for our vertical garden

We have been really enjoying the gardening so far this year.

We have had great weather up until the past week or so.

We have returned to cold wet weather all this week.

I’ts nice for a change, but everything that was parched is now quenched so the sun and warm weather can return now as far as I am concerned.

These black pansies are a treat.

I had never seen them before so I of course had to get them when I stumbled on to them.

The other night my husband and I made tomato cages out of bamboo sticks and this great twine covered wire I found at Michaels.  It works great for holding the sticks together and gives sturdy support to the plants all while appearing rustic.

I like the looks of these better than those old tomato cages.

I will see how well they work on the tomatoes this year.  I only used these for the pepper plants last year.  They worked well for those but of course tomato plants can be so wiry and heavy … I will see.

We also added a large trellis for the zuchinni and the cucumbers that we are growing vertically this year.  Actually we just put four wood trellis that I purchased onto the fence horizontally to make one big trellis.  Screwing them into the posts of the fence leaves a nice space behind them for circulation as well as for the plants to fit into easily with their abundant veggies they are going to provide to us  all summer long.

I am a positive thinker.

Love your fire pit/conversation area, it’s very inviting! Also your “garden experiments” mantra, words to live by-enjoy!

We could use a little of the cooler weather here. The bamboo cages do look much better than the metal ones that we use.

What a neat idea for the tomatoes, you will have to tell us how well it works. We use the cages in our garden, so ugly. Everything looks wonderful this Friday. Have a great weekend.

Very pretty flowers in upstate New York! And I love your little kitty in the last post. And the milk box! Well, I used to get my milk in one of those for the longest time. It came in glass jugs and tasted better than it does now in the plastic. You could also leave a note if you needed anything extra like butter or chocolate milk. You woke up early and magic…it was waiting for you!! Loved it and miss it!

    Hi Teresa,
You have a nice place. I love your patio area. Those plant supports look cool. I look forward to seeing how they do.

We’re having highs in the 80s, and lots of rain.

Thanks for visiting my blog, and telling me the name of my yellow blooms. The amsonia with narrow leaves is the hubrichtii. The bigger one is taberdemontana. (I may be off on the spelling, but if you look them up, the correct spelling will pop up.)

Everytime I see someone’s clematis that is BEAUTIFUL I get so jealous. This is my first year and they’re just not growing and blooming fast enough…. gardening is definitely a lesson in patience. I’ve got tomatoes, pumpkins and zucchini plants on the deck. Hoping I can get them go grow horizontally. The tomato sure looks like it wants to stand up lol
